Q.  Hey Oracle, I noticed the other day that Lost and Chris' version of the song Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas appears in Ugly Betty.... And I was just wondering if you have a list of all the Coldplay songs that appear in movies or tv series?

Thanks x

There are simply too many TV shows that it would be almost impossible to list every one. We don't have a list of films either but you can easily find out from a source such as IMDB.

Q.  Hi, dear Oracle. Watching again and again the Ghost Stories TV Special I noticed that the custom built theatre looks very similar to one that that appears in the Michael Jackson video Hold My Hand, Is it the same?

I'm confused. Looking at the official video for Hold My Hand, I can't work out where you see the similarity. Michael's video was filmed in airship hangars (plus concert footage etc.) and Coldplay's was a purpose built amphitheatre in a soundstage. They're not the same albeit large vacuous spaces.

Q.  Hey Oracle

I was wondering in the video of ASFOS, what video was playing on the television sets as Chris was playing his guitar?

As you may know, there was another video made before they went to Australia but the band didn't like it. What you can see on those TV sets in the shop window is a snippet of that ditched video.

Q.  Hello O,
Just curious, during tours or in between recordings, do our boys hang out in a single room and watch a particular TV show or something?
What are they collectively interested in other than the music they create together?

If it's a TV/radio appearance or awards show type set up, there's a green room where the guys will chill out beforehand. Here they may read, chat, listen to music, watch a film, play video games (solo or against each other), make phone calls or whatever.
When they're on tour, it's a much bigger operation. There are several rooms for band personnel, family & friends plus the band have one large dressing room and warm up room(s).
They may also go and kick a ball about, go for a run or visit catering.

Q.  Hey all-knowing Oracle!
Once you said that Jonny's favourite guitar is named Sunny. I heard that one of his favourite ones is a Fender Telecaster Thinline, so I was wondering if Sunny is a Fender Telecaster Thinline?
Thanks, Lea :)

Matt: Yep, that's the one! It was the main guitar in the Ghost Stories DVD* if you have a look - it's got a sunburst finish, hence the name.

*Matt is referring to the TV special that we told you about the broadcast of back in May.

Q.  Please smart Oracle let me know the truth my Aunty said bands have to lip sync on Brit tv shows because of expenses. I'm so upset I have seen them perform on the Graham Norton show and no way it looked like it was lip synced! After being at 2 Coldplay concerts I know they don't lip sync plz Oracle I hope I can tell my Aunty she is wrong! Put my heart and stress at ease thanks for all your posts.

You can tell your Aunty that isn't true - not these days. Lip synching isn't that prevalent in 2014 so you've probably never seen Coldplay mime to any vocals (other than their music videos obviously).
There was a time (about 20 odd years ago) when shows like Top of the Pops didn't always have the facility to have bands perform live. In fact, some artists refused to appear unless they performed live.

Q.  Is it the stage in the video uploaded on YouTube for A sky full of stars (TV special) is the one that Chris Martin mentioned which cost about 2m to build?

The TV special - Coldplay: Ghost Stories - was the stage that Chris was referring to when he said it was too expensive to re-create for every show but I'm pretty sure he was half joking / exaggerating the £2 million cost of it - though it was VERY expensive.

Q.  Why the set used to the TV Special is too expensive? It seems simply a round stage...

It wasn't "simply a round stage"; it was recorded in a custom-built amphitheatre.
As they performed in the round, they also were able to incorporate 360-degree projections.

Q.  Hello! Hope everyone is doing excellent.
Short question:
Who is the young lady floating under water during Coldplay's performance of Another's Arms?
Give my greetings to Chris, Guy, Jon, and Will. Love ya boys!

I'm sorry I don't know her name. She wasn't an actress but a model.

Q.  Dear Oracle,

I just found a video of Midnight, live at the Alcaline concert. I love it. Can you give me the playlist of that concert?

Love Coldplay and thank you for your time.

I was very confused by this as I didn't know where Alcaline was. I realise you're actually referring to the TV special, Coldplay: Ghost Stories that you presumably watched on Alcaline. It's got nothing to do with Alcaline by the way.
The set list was:

Always In My Head
True Love
Viva La Vida
Another's Arms
A Sky Full Of Stars
(Fly On / O)
