Q.  Who was the opening artist in the 1st July show at Royal Albert Hall, London?

AlunaGeorge. That's the name of the duo but people tend to assume that it's Aluna's (the singer) surname.

Q.  Hello! Do Coldplay's supporting acts such as Rita Ora or Frank Ocean travel together with Coldplay and spend time with the band? I'm a huge fan of all the supporting acts and I was just wondering if they're all close friends. Sorry if this question is worded weirdly, but thanks!!!

When the band toured Latin America in 2010, the opening act did travel with Coldplay, as did everyone. Coldplay's crew, Bat For Lashes' crew and all personnel travelled on a chartered plane for convenience Plus it kept costs down. The band had built up a great rapport with Bat For Lashes on a previous tour so invited them to travel with the band party.
To answer your question, no, it's not usual for the support bands to travel with the band. I'm pretty sure they're not close friends either.
I read a hideous story the other day about security for a well-known artist telling the support act to face the wall rather than look at the megastar. I can assure you, no such behaviour goes on with Coldplay.

Q.  I just got home from a Coldplay concert at Darien Lake in Buffalo, NY (which was an AMAZING show!! Awesome set list and performance! My first concert ever too :]) and anyway, I was wondering, who was the opening band for that concert? They were pretty good but no one seemed to know what the name of the band was! I even asked a few of the security people working there and they didn't know! Oh please Oracle, you have to tell me who that band was! Thanks!!

Jio ♥

Details of the current tour support was reported by Anchorman. Seems you may have seen Howling Bells and Pete Yorn you lucky thing!

Q.  There's a petition in facebook asking Coldplay to let a local band to open for them (and Mercury Rev). apprarently, they've got LOTS of support - including media. what do Coldplay, and you, think of this?

Some weeks ago when the UAE date was announced a band did get on touch asking for the opportunity but the local promoters had already selected an opening band for the show so there was nothing that could be done for that band or any other.

Q.  G'day Oracle,
This may sound strange but bear with me...could you please give me a list of bands that have supported Coldplay because I'd love to have a listen!
thanks from Aussie!

Of course there are copious amounts of bands that have taken to the stage before Coldplay, possibly too many for me to name right here, right now but I shall take a deep breath and list as many as immediately pop into my mind! Okay in no particular order here we go...
Mercedes, Lowgold, Grandaddy, Betchadupa, Ron Sexsmith, Rilo Kiley, Fiona Apple, Youth Group, Doves, Elbow, Interpol, One Giant Leap (remember that?), The Music, Ash, Eisley, Feeder, Albert Hammond Jr, Goldfrapp, Ian McCulloch, Morning Runner, Supergrass, Richard Ashcroft, The High Wire, Jon Hopkins, Eugene Francis, The Domino State, Santogold, Duffy, Shearwater, Sleepercar, Decoder Ring and this year we have Girls Aloud and Jay Z confirmed. Phew my head hurts and I know I haven't listed them all, but that's plenty to be getting on with yes?
