Q.  Hi, dear Oracle !! I have this question that keeps me wondering all the time, it's about the clothes that the band wears. My question is: who decides the kind of clothes they will gonna wear on tour and how are they made.
Thank you very very much!

The band come up with the initial ideas - style / colour / theme - and then meet with stylists.
The clothes are not all made the same way. Some are custom made (Viva / Mylo) and some are off the rail and some are a combination of both.
The Viva outfits are a great example of what I mean, as you can see here.

Q.  Hello
How does the guys see when they play on a dark stage? Like at the start of Charlie Brown, Jonny starts playing in the pitch black. Do they have little lights?

It's not as pitch black as you may think. There are lights emitting from all manner of things onstage. Illumination may be necessary for Chris if he's moving to / from piano for example but the band don't need lights to play their instruments.

Q.  Hi, dear Oracle. Watching again and again the Ghost Stories TV Special I noticed that the custom built theatre looks very similar to one that that appears in the Michael Jackson video Hold My Hand, Is it the same?

I'm confused. Looking at the official video for Hold My Hand, I can't work out where you see the similarity. Michael's video was filmed in airship hangars (plus concert footage etc.) and Coldplay's was a purpose built amphitheatre in a soundstage. They're not the same albeit large vacuous spaces.

Q.  Is it the stage in the video uploaded on YouTube for A sky full of stars (TV special) is the one that Chris Martin mentioned which cost about 2m to build?

The TV special - Coldplay: Ghost Stories - was the stage that Chris was referring to when he said it was too expensive to re-create for every show but I'm pretty sure he was half joking / exaggerating the £2 million cost of it - though it was VERY expensive.

Q.  Why the set used to the TV Special is too expensive? It seems simply a round stage...

It wasn't "simply a round stage"; it was recorded in a custom-built amphitheatre.
As they performed in the round, they also were able to incorporate 360-degree projections.

Q.  Dear Oracle,

I just found a video of Midnight, live at the Alcaline concert. I love it. Can you give me the playlist of that concert?

Love Coldplay and thank you for your time.

I was very confused by this as I didn't know where Alcaline was. I realise you're actually referring to the TV special, Coldplay: Ghost Stories that you presumably watched on Alcaline. It's got nothing to do with Alcaline by the way.
The set list was:

Always In My Head
True Love
Viva La Vida
Another's Arms
A Sky Full Of Stars
(Fly On / O)

Q.  I love the stage set from the Ghost Stories TV special. Who designed it, and will it be going on the road with the band?

It was designed by Phil, Paul Normandie and Misty Buckley.
It hasn't been (& won't be) on the road with the band; it's actually too expensive to do.

Hello Oracle,
I've printed off a seating plan for Coldplay's upcoming gig at the Emirates Stadium but there is no sign of the 'X' stage in the middle, will it be there?
Many Many Thanks :)

As far as I know, the X Stage is the B stage which is situated at the end of one of the runways from the main stage.
I have a feeling you are referring to the C stage, as that is positioned in the seated area at the back within the audience.
That wouldn't appear on a seating plan. Apart from it being a surprise on the night, the seating plan from show to show isn't modified too much online.

Q.  Will the stages for the UK Stadium tour strut into the crowd like I've seen on previous gigs? Would be amazing if they did!

I'm pretty sure that a runway jutting out of the stage will always be there. It's a great way to connect with the audience and of course, the band have had a 'B stage' section performed there too so don't think they'd be keen to lose that.

Q.  Can you point me to a picture of how the stage is set up for the North American Tour. This is in regards to buying seats behind the stage and I am curious if it has a high backdrop or not.

As I said last week (or the week before), the view from behind the stage is a good one so don't worry. There isn't a backdrop as such; it's open apart from a low graffiti wall.
