Q.  Hi dear Oracle!
Does Ode to Deodorant count as an official Coldplay recording? Because in the recording section of the webpage I couldn't find it.
Thank You!!
Pablo.

No. The Recordings section of the site only includes official full releases of singles, E.Ps and albums. Demo recordings don't count - apart from Safety as this was still seen as a professional release despite it being a self-financed / self-released without a label.

Q.  I was just wondering if the song Ode to Deodorant was really the first song ever recorded by Coldplay?

The first songs that were recorded on tape as rough demos didn't include Ode to Deodorant.
Ode was recorded in a studio (with Brothers & Sisters) and there was a master CDR of it. From this, cassette copies were made.
The Safety EP was the first recording that had multiple CDs pressed and distributed hence that being credited as their first release - though it was never available for sale.

Q.  Dear Oracle,
I know this may seem like a stupid question, but I would really like to know... Was Chris high/drunk when he wrote Ode To Deodorant?

Thanks,
Linus :)

Given Chris doesn't take drugs and rarely drinks alcohol, he was neither. I once asked Chris - granted, I didn't know him very well at the time - if the song was about drugs but it really is about deodorant.

Q.  Was there ever any official album art for Coldplay's first song, Ode
to Deodorant.
Also on YouTube there is a comment that says their first song was Love
I'm So Tired released in 1997. Sorry about all these questions but is
there an official release of Ode to Deodorant I can download.

Personally I have never heard a song of that name and there definitely
wasn't a release in 1997 of any kind. Ode to Deodorant was a
professionally recorded demo that followed the Safety ep but it was
never officially released in any capacity. This means there is not an
endorsed download available. There are a handful of physical copies
floating around and I have seen it online but that was a while ago.

Q.  Dear Oracle who knows it all:
I was wondering if this really is the one and only Ode to Deodorant?

Yes that really is the ultra rare, hard to find aforementioned song; a very early demo post Safety EP but pre-Brothers & Sisters. It's terrible quality mind!

Q.  Hi dear Oracle
I would like to know why you guys decided to call your first song "Ode To Deodorant" like that? It's such a great song a I would really like to know!
Good evening! Thanks!

I swear the first time I heard that song I thought it was a euphemism for something else. I'd never heard a song about something so random but totally believe Chris when he says that is in fact about deodorant!

Q.  Was there ever a CD-R demo of the 2-track Ode to Deodorant release? OR was it recorded directly to cassette, then dubbed cassette to cassette?

There was a CD-R demo but it was distributed on cassette, though not as a release. It was for demo purposes only.

Q.  O great Oracle, reply to the questions that follow please :)
Coldplay's fame starter was the two songs "Brothers and Sisters" and "Ode to Deodorant" that are on "The Safety EP".
Question 1:
How come "Brothers and Sisters" is available on iTunes and "Ode to Deodorant" is not?
Question 2:
Is there any way for Coldplay to get their older music onto US iTunes?
Question 3: Do you have any idea where I could download "Ode to Deodorant" from?
Please reply!
Thank you,
Sabrina, THE die hard Coldplay fan :)

Neither of those songs were on the Safety E.P although they were songs that helped them on their path.
Ode to Deodorant isn't available anywhere, except the odd copy that turns up on auction sites but as it was never released and only recorded for demo purposes, it shouldn't really be readily available and there's definitely no way it would be on iTunes. I can't suggest anywhere for that rarity.
Unreleased songs from way back aren't likely to turn up on any iTunes at this stage to be honest.

Q.  Dear Oracle, is Ode to Deodorant¬Ě a Jatravartid song?

I can see why you would ask given that people are making many connections between Coldplay and The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy and Jatravartid invented aerosol deodorant but no, the song is not about them.
