Q.  Dear Oracle, in the Parachutes era had be attemped to change the name of Coldplay to another one?

No, in 1998 the band changed their name from Starfish to The Coldplay. By the end of the year, they had dropped "The" and Coldplay was their name. There were no further discussions to change it after that.

Q.  Dearest Oracle,

Where does the name Coldplay originate from? Apparently it was the name of another band at UCL in the late 90s who donated their name to the guys, but do you know how the name was thought up?

Thank you very much.

It wasn't donated so much as picked up with permission after being discarded. Here is more information that I've mentioned before.

Q.  Hello Oracle!!!
I've asked you this question multiple times and you never answer. I REALLY want to know the answer to this question so please tell me: Where did the band get their name from?

I wasn't ignoring you, the reason I didn't reply is because that question has been asked several times - the answer is here.

Q.  Dear Oracle, time ago, I read in Wikipedia that the name of Coldplay came from a poem. I been trying to find it but I'm not sure if it's right can you give me an answer please. I will be very pleased if you can tell me what poem is or if it's real or not... anyway thanks! I just love Coldplay and its music it is pure poetry.

It's not one single poem; it's a collection of poetry called Child's Reflections, Cold Play written by Philip Horky. There really should be more copies pressed up due to its increased popularity since the band took the name but at the moment if you can find a copy it's actually expensive to buy.

Q.  The book Child's Reflections, is there any way you can purchase the book? If so, where?

You can get a copy of Philip Horky's book from Amazon.

Q.  Hello dear and loved Oracle. What means Coldplay, literally, what means? God bless you and bless me.

There isn't a translation for Coldplay as a singular word. It was made by putting the two words cold and play together. As previously mentioned the name originates from Phillip Horky's book: Child's Reflections, Cold Play. If you do translate cold and play though that wouldn't give you a clearer meaning into the band name as there isn't one!

Q.  Where did the name Coldplay come from?

The name originally came from a collected book of poems called Child's Reflections, Cold Play written by Philip Horky. The band came by it via Tim Crompton, a close friend of Chris, who first used the name for his band. When they no longer wanted it, the then Starfish asked if they could use it. Tim is now in The High Wire. The book has become somewhat of a collector's item in recent years due to the band's popularity. Philip Horky is now a fan (not because of increased sales necessarily, he likes the music).
