Q.  One day I was listening Lost! in my iPod, and I suddenly noticed that the cover of this song is like a map (well, that's what I think it is) and it says in the background Matto Grosso, so I have two questions about this, dear Oracle:
- Do you know what Matto Grosso means?
- And if it is a real place, why does it appear in the cover of the single Lost!?
Thank you for your answer
Hope to see Coldplay here in Latin America soon.

The correct spelling is Mato Grosso and it is indeed a real place - in Brazil. It appears a couple of times. It's also on the inside cover of the Viva la Vida album (the blue image that was also used for Glass of Water's artwork).
I don't know why it's specifically used for Lost! (or on the other tracks / album artwork).

Q.  When recording Lost+ did Chris help write Jay Z's rap?

I can't imagine for one second that Jay needs any help with his rap lyrics despite Chris' rapesque technique on The Nappies track!

Q.  Greetings Oracle,

I noticed that somebody by the name of "Tree" submitted a very rude question a while back about a video competition of sorts. What was that about?

P.s. I loved your response.

Ha! I had forgotten all about that, Nathan. In October 2008, we launched a competition for fans to make a video to Lost?
Tree quite clearly got the hump.

Paul O' Brien was the eventual (worthy) winner.

Q.  Who actually won the Lost? video competition?

Wow, there's a blast from the past. Can you believe that was over 5 years ago?
The winner was Paul O' Brien and you can read an interview with him here.

Q.  Hi Oracle,
I recently signed up for the Global Citizen and in doing so I found this and the first part of the stop malaria film clip, sounded like the beat off of Lost! I was wondering if they had/needed permission to do that. And is there anyway that Coldplay may support the Global Citizen and that's why the sounds of Lost! are in the video. I know it's not Lost!, but it's similar.
Thanks Oracle!

The band aren't associated with Global Citizen, the reason it sounds similar is because it's a sample of Lost! The track is Better by K'Naan and I'm sure he got permission because it's illegal not to have. There is a Coldplay reference if you listen to the song in its entirety...

Q.  Dearest Oracle, I was watching videos in French to practice a little bit and all of a sudden I found this song.
The piano sounds just like the acoustic version of Lost by Coldplay. Is it simply sheer coincidence, have they asked Coldplay for permission, or what happened...?

It IS Lost? - the acoustic version of Lost!
You need to clear a sample before using it. That means La Fouine will have needed permission to sample Lost? in this song, Papa. Not necessarily from the band but their label/publisher. La Fouine will also have had paid a royalty to Coldplay for its use.

Q.  In the Glastonbury headlining what was the word that Chris whispered before the band ended their Lost! performance?

It's official, the Oracle does not know everything. I do not know what Chris whispered. Anyone?

Q.  Hi Oracle!

I was looking at the official Coldplay YouTube channel and saw a lot of videos with the name Lost? competition. Can you tell me what kind of competition it was and what the prizes were?
Thanks a lot!

Ooh another Lost? Q.

Anyway, the band ran a competition a few years ago where we invited people to submit an original video for the acoustic version of Lost (Lost?). The entries were available to view on the official YouTube channel but we also needed another to cope with the volume of entries.
A winner (and runner-up) was chosen and they were invited to see the band in London and their video was shown on the big screens before the show started.

Q.  Hi Oracle!
From where did Jay Z know about Michael Jackson's death when he wrote the lyrics for the song Lost+, which was released in November 2008? we all know Michael died in summer 2009...but still in this song Jay mentions him in a list with some other great personalities who are dead now..

Indeed he did but the list wasn't about people who had necessarily died it was more about being bad mouthed. In fact, later in the song jay also name checks Bobby Brown and he's alive and kicking.

Q.  Hello Oracle,
I have 2 questions here!
Will Coldplay ever do a music video of Lost! with JAY Z. I absolutely love the collaboration.
And also, I would like to ask why is Coldplay's song like Parachutes and a piece from Chris Postcards From Far Away so short?! It always always always leaves me wanting more.

There is a video for Lost+ featuring Jay Z. It's practically the same as Lost! but with Jay cleverly edited in via the onstage television prop.

I agree that those shorter pieces leave you wanting more but a song is as long as it is. If Chris felt they were finished at under a minute or two, there's not much we can do about it!
