Q.  Hi Oracle, I found a funny bit of info, and I'd like to know what you think of it. I saw a video of a show back in 2011, where Kanye West, Jay Z, and Chris Martin were singing Homecoming. Near the end, Chris forgets some lyrics... was it because he hadn't done the song since 2007, or because he simply says, "I'm a little drunk".

That show was from 31 December, 2010 - New Year's Eve. Chris had therefore had a drink but he wasn't drunk.

Q.  In the credits for Yeezus it says Chris Martin wrote on the track Guilt Trip. I remember Chris was in Paris a few months back when Kanye was working on the album. Is this Coldplay's Chris Martin?

As you probably know Chris has collaborated with Kanye before (on Homecoming) but no, that's not our Chris. It's DJ Premier & his real name is also Chris Martin.

Q.  Hi

I have two questions:

1. Could you tell me whose idea was to record Homecoming (Kanye West ft Chris Martin)? I love that song...

And 2. How can I practice my English? I need to practice speaking and writing but I would like to practice with someone that lives in London, I have gone to academies but I doubt they can help me more. I've reached the top, any suggestions?

Coldplay were performing for a BBC Radio 2 show at Abbey Road Studios back in February (the day before Valentine's Day), 2006. Kanye was also in the studio at the time.
There was an impromptu jamming session with Chris and that's where Homecoming came from.

I am wary of suggesting how best to practise your English.
Maybe you could look for someone on a forum ( for example) and ask someone if they're happy to set up a Skype or webchat of some kind so you can speak in English.
Stay safe!

Q.  Dear Oracle..
Did Chris write the piano riff in Homecoming, a song in which he collaborated with Kanye West?

The song originally featured vocals by John Legend. Chris met Kanye at Abbey Road Studios in February 2006 when the band were recording a special BBC Radio 2 show. They jammed together as Kanye was recording his album there. This led to the re-recorded version which Chris' vocals and fingers appear on.
