Q.  Hey, O!
Why Harmless isn't part of Parachutes? It's a really great song, it should've been on the album. Greetings from Venezuela!!!

Harmless wasn't actually written then; it was written after during the AROBTTH era.
Many songs were written for that album (and subsequent ones) that didn't make it.
There can be different reasons why these tracks don't make the album - including but not limited to - it doesn't fit the style, it's not good enough, it was ear-marked for a b side, it was written too late or the band (& their inner circle) don't agree on its inclusion.

Q.  Greetings mighty Oracle
Can you tell me why the Don't Panic single was never... popular I guess? Eg. it's not on the website.
Can you tell me about Without Parachutes? Is Harmless the only new song on it? When was it released? All that.

Don't Panic was not a single; it was released in a few territories only so it doesn't count on our discography. There are a few other select releases missing in that respect.
Without Parachutes isn't on our discography either because it's unofficial, unauthorized - call it what you will - and has no rights to have an unreleased song on it at all. Harmless is not "new", it was a demo that was leaked from recording sessions around 2001/2. It was discarded and never released on any album, single, E.P etc.

Q.  Dear all-knowing Oracle,

About a year ago, I stumbled upon a Coldplay song named Harmless and to be quite honest, it has to be the best song I've ever heard. Sadly, the track ends abruptly and doesn't seem to have a real ending. My question is, was this track ever released on an actual album or single? And if it was, is there anyway I could get a hold of the entire track (ending included)? This has bothered me for quite some time and I figured, who better to ask than the Oracle. Thanks in advance. :D

Harmelss was written during the A Rush Of Blood To The Head sessions back at the end of 2001.
It didn't make it on to the album and wasn't selected for a b-side or anything either so the only version that remains is the demo that Chris recorded.
Let's just say that it was leaked on the Internet which is why there is only the one abrupt ending recording. You won't find it anywhere else.

Q.  When was Harmless written? The consensus is that it was written in the X & Y era, but then again I've heard that it was written for Parachutes (which seems more likely).

Nonetheless it's a fabulous song and I can only wonder why the boys didn't put it on an album!

Actually neither are right; I recall Harmless first being written during the A Rush of Blood to the Head recording sessions. It was certainly post-Parachutes and pre-X&Y.
