Q.  Hey Oracle! Will the boys make another Christmas message? I just love them and I haven't found one for this year..

Patience, Heaven. It's only the 18th so there's still time. Watch this* space as they say.

*Not this space but you know what I mean.

Q.  Dear O,

What's your favourite Christmas Message from the boys? I really like the Last Christmas cover of 2007 with Jonny smiling at the end.

Feliz Navidad!

Ooh I'd totally forgotten about that Christmas message. I don't have a favourite but Will's performance in the End Of Decade Sale is brilliant - not a Christmas message I know but worthy of a mention.

I was thinking as we've had a couple of Christmas song questions recently (well it is less than ten days away) the band have performed enough to give people a Coldplay Christmas fix: Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas, Last Christmas, White Christmas, Happy Xmas (War Is Over), Jingle Bells and of course Christmas Lights.

Q.  I listened to Chris sing Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas on YouTube and I loved it instantly, so I just wondered if it is available to buy somewhere?

There was a compilation charity CD released in 2002 called Maybe This Christmas that the track appeared on - you should still be able to get it.
Other than that, the only other official recording of it is on the Mince Spies CD but that was never available to buy as it was a free giveaway (in 2000). Copies do turn up from time to time on auction sites etc.

Q.  Hello Oracle,
I was wondering, as the Melbourne concert (13.11.12) is at the very end of the Mylo Xyloto tour, if there was any chance we'd hear any Christmas Lights or the like? I mean it would be just about the closest the tour gets to Christmas time.

People have told me it's too early for Christmas music - but is it ever truly too early for Christmas?

Is it ever too early for Christmas? In my book, anything before 24th December is too early. Ha ha.
Now the UK has had our last tradition before Christmas (5th November - Guy Fawkes night) we'll be hearing Christmas songs in-store any day now.
I have actually almost finished my Christmas shopping though and am more than happy to start drinking mulled wine.
Carols, trees, cards and decorations will all have to wait until the week before.
Anyway, Christmas Lights won't be making a November appearance. I'm pretty sure last December it only made it into two live shows' sets; Dingwalls and the Under 1 Roof charity gig.
*EDIT: Thanks Raphaele & Jasmin who inform me that Berlin also got to hear it last December.

Q.  Was your Christmas one with snow or sun?

We didn't have a White Christmas here in the U.K. It was very mild where I was with a teeny bit of rain but not much.

Q.  Where's this week's Team Oracle question?

As today is the start of the festive break, there will be no new Team Oracle posed until after the holidays.
However, due to an unprecedented response to last week's question, I will post some replies today and some next week.
I will be posting Oracle replies occasionally so do check back and of course to part II of this week's Team Oracle on Friday 30th December.
Thank you all for writing in (and replying) to the Oracle over the past 12 months and I look forward to seeing you when normal service is resumed Tuesday 3rd January 2012.
In the meantime, I wish you all a very Merry Christmas!

Q.  Is there any way of the Oracle encouraging everyone to buy Paradise, Charlie Brown or Christmas Lights starting this Sunday in hope Coldplay can be Christmas Number One this year?

I'd be up for it!!

I initially thought we may be having The Wombles as the UK's Christmas number 1 and was fine with that but as it now looks like our Christmas #1 is a cert & for a great cause, I think I will let fate decide...

Q.  Dear Oracle,
I was wondering if Coldplay planned on putting out another Christmas song like they did last year with Christmas Lights(which I am listening to right now.) Thanks for reading this and I hope you respond to my question. Have a good day.

I did say there'd be no Christmas album from Coldplay a couple of weeks ago, same goes for a Christmas song* too.
However, if you want to get in the festive mood with two new Christmas albums, I recommend Coldplay friend and collaborator Tim Wheeler's This Is Christmas, an album made with with Emmy the Great. It was released on 21st Nov.

Another is an album released on 28th Nov by two wonderful people, Smith & Burrows.

*This Friday is the one year anniversary of the Christmas Lights video shoot. How times flies. We'll be hearing it in stores the world over soon eh?

Q.  First off I love Mylo Xyloto! it was magical! my question is about the possibility of a Christmas album, Chris mentioned on the Colbert Report that one was in the works, was he joking or is there one in the works?

Without even having to ask someone to confirm / deny I know that it's definitely a joke and Chris is teasing; there is no Christmas album in any pipeline of any kind.

Q.  Dear Oracle!

2 questions!
1. Is this the first time that Coldplay release a song for Christmas?
2. Which scene of Harry Potter 7 was your favorite?

Thanks lovely oracle!

Although there have been Christmas songs recorded that have featured around the festive period this is the first time the band have officially released a song for Christmas.
The other tracks that have been available on CD (but not an EMI release) are Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas (2000) & 2000 Miles (2003).
If you're looking for other Coldplay Christmas related stuff you can certainly find their Christmas messages of bygone times as well as Christmas songs they have performed on the radio and at live shows...

My favourite scene in Harry Potter & the Deathly Hallows part I is without a doubt the animation during Hermione's reading of the Tale of the Three Brothers. That sequence was stunningly designed and directed by Ben Hibon by the way.
