Q.  Is the song Charlie Brown slightly based in the 1987 Joel Schumacher "The Lost Boys" movie?
I saw the movie again over the weekend and it was all very familiar. .... Took a car downtown where the lost boys meet and took what they offered me to set me free... coincidence?

I haven't heard any reference to the film being an influence. As you may know, The Lost Boys are first and foremost characters in Peter Pan and Charlie Brown is a Peanuts character.
Many of you will know the working title for a while was Cartoon Heart before they settled on Charlie Brown, Charlie Brown being an original lyric that got dropped.

Q.  Just wondering what string gauge/tuning is used for Charlie Brown. It sounds very jangly. I like it!

You will soon discover there is a theme with this week's questions.
It seems you guys want to know a lot about Jonny so I enlisted Matt McGinn to answer a few specialist questions.
Over to Matt:

Q.  Hi Oracle,
I was wondering, see in the Live 2012 CD, when Charlie Brown comes on and Chris says "w-how changed it" or something along those lines, what does he mean by that? Like what did they change? I watched the DVD but couldn't spot it either.

As Charlie Brown song starts, Chris says "Ok Will, switch 'em on, let's go" and many people therefore think Will triggers the Xylobands, but it's Jason - the Xyloband inventor - who does. Chris is actually saying "oh ho, Jason" in reaction to how amazing the lights look.

Q.  @coldplayzoneit

In this video there are some images recorded NOT live. When, where and how that part was shot?

This clip of Charlie Brown is taken from the Coldplay Live 2012.
The majority of the live footage was from their Glastonbury Pyramid Stage headlining appearance, June 2011.
The film director, Paul Dugdale, created a montage rather than shoot a straight performance.

Q.  Hey there Oracle,

I remember the Charlie Brown Summer Tour video as saying to expect a real Charlie Brown video soon - any hints at what could possibly follow after Paradise's great clip?

Dancing and illuminous day glo paint. Oh, but there are no topless female dancers as has been rumoured. That's all I'm saying!

Q.  Dear Oracle,

Why is the song Charlie Brown named Charlie Brown?

An earlier version of the song actually had the lyric Charlie Brown in it. It was left out of the final recording but the name stuck as the band couldn't think of an alternative.

Q.  Other than the random noises, this video sounds like a true studio version of Charlie Brown, did it leak?

As I explained the other day, Charlie Brown is being used (officially) for soundbeds. It's not a leaked version as that would be a huge breach of copyright to use it. Maybe I should have explained. A soundbed is the music that runs underneath something else such as the background music when a radio DJ is talking etc. They're not random noises, they are clips from TV shows.
It's NOT an advert by the way - a few question askers are still confusing trailers for commercials.
The version of Charlie Brown used is an edited version of the studio recording.

Q.  Hey Oracle, did Charlie Brown leak? I heard an instrumental in this football thing and a fuller version with vocals in this trailer for some tv show. Was it leased legally?

It wasn't "leaked". Charlie Brown is being used as a sound bed on tv at the moment but that can't be done without having the full approved version and license to use it.

Q.  Dear Oracle,
I heard Charlie Brown on YouTube! It's awesome! But there's an Asian sounding part! It sounds real good but I cant figure what it really is...

In the intro to Charlie Brown the sound you can hear is actually Chris' vocal speeded up.

Q.  Dear Oracle,

At the Rock Am Ring festival Coldplay performed a new song called Charlie Brown. My question is: who is he, and why has Coldplay dedicated this song to him?

Greetings from The Netherlands!

It's definitely not dedicated to a real person. The only Charlie Brown I know of is the comic strip creation by Charles M. Schulz. Given the lyric that led most fans to think the song was called Cartoon Heart, I'd say it's named after him.
